912
The 912 was a cheaper, more fuel efficient 911, built from 1965 to 1969 with a limited edition in 1976. It was always called the "Poor man's Porsche." The 912 looks just like the 911. If you saw one you'd think it was a 911. The 912 was a stripped down 911, with less power. In 1965, the 912 replaced the 356. It had a 4 cylinder engine. Porsche produced a special edition 912 in 1976, they called it the 912 E. The E in 912 E stood for Einspritzung, in German it means fuel injection. The 914 was gone and Porsche needed a car that would be cheaper than the 911 but would sell. Only a little more than 2000 of them were made. They had a 2.0 Liter, from the 914. Standard was the 911 body, but with unvented brakes, and smaller wheels. Some options for the 912 E were electric sunroof, and A/C, fog lights. They were replaced by the 914 in 1969.
